📍 Pululahua is a dormant volcano located in Ecuador. The volcano's caldera is approximately 3 miles wide and is one of the largest inhabited volcanic craters in the world.
The area was established in 1967 as the first protected area in mainland Ecuador. The name "Pululahua" means "cloud of water" in the local Quichua language, reflecting the misty and humid environment of the crater.

Discover the Culuncos! A unique type of sunken trail network weaving through the jaws of the jungle!

In the pre-Incan period, the Yumbos (800 AD) used this trail system for trading goods and communication between the coastal and mountain regions of Ecuador. Later, this route was occupied by the Incan empire, Spanish conquerors, loggers, liquor dealers hauling liquor derived from sugar cane with caravans of oxen and mules, and local farmers.
